Kaiser Foundation Hospitals Expands in South San Jose with Purchase of Land to Build New State-of-the-Art Hospital

Kaiser Foundation Hospitals has recently purchased a small parcel of land in south San Jose for $3 million, next to the site where the healthcare giant is building a state-of-the-art hospital. The land was sold by Great Oaks Water Co. and is only 1,450 square feet in size.

This deal is part of Kaiser’s larger plan to replace its aging San Jose Medical Center with a modern complex. Construction on the new hospital began in November 2024 and is expected to be completed by fall of 2029. The new facility will be over 650,000 square feet and will have up to 300 private patient rooms.

The purchase of this small parcel of land is just one of many property deals that Kaiser has made in the area to make way for the new hospital. The company has also purchased a nearby office building and plans to demolish the existing hospital once the new one is operational.

The new hospital will not only provide advanced features and comply with the latest seismic safety standards, but it will also offer more space and room for high-quality patient services. With 300 beds, it will be 21% larger than the current hospital.

The first phase of construction is a new parking garage with 1,040 spaces, which will allow the existing hospital to continue operating without disruption while the new one is being built. Once the new facility is operational, the old hospital will be demolished.

Kaiser’s investment in this project shows their commitment to providing top-notch healthcare services to the community. With this new hospital, they aim to better serve the growing population in south San Jose.
