Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has given the green light for NXTClean Fuel’s renewable fuels facility to operate within the state’s strict environmental regulations. This comes after the DEQ approved the company’s 401 water permit, marking the conclusion of major state permitting reviews.

This recent approval is just the latest milestone for NXTClean Fuels, as the company has already received state approvals for its removal fill permit and air permit in 2022, as well as local land use permits in 2024.

The proposed clean fuels production facility, with an estimated cost of $2.5 billion, will have the capacity to produce up to 50,000 barrels per day of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel. Located at Port Westward, the facility will have the advantage of multi-modal delivery options for both domestic and international markets for feedstocks and finished products. These renewable fuels are chemically identical to their fossil-based counterparts, but can be up to 85 percent cleaner.

The DEQ’s approval of NXTClean Fuel’s water permit confirms the company’s commitment to operating in an environmentally responsible manner. With this milestone reached, the company can now move forward with their plans to produce renewable fuels and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
