Stantec, a leading global sustainable design and engineering firm, has been chosen to serve as the program manager for DC Water’s Process Facilities Program (PFP). This program is a crucial part of DC Water’s 10-year, $9.6 billion capital improvement plan. Stantec will act as the prime consultant, with a team of both national and local subconsultants supporting the program.

As the PFP Program Manager, Stantec will assist DC Water with the delivery of numerous large-scale capital improvement projects within the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is the largest treatment plant of its kind in the world. This will be done through a collaborative delivery approach. The program includes upgrades to the wastewater treatment facility, as well as improvements to upstream stormwater and wastewater pump stations.

In addition to these projects, Stantec will also provide guidance on future wastewater system upgrades and collaborative delivery strategies. This will help DC Water prepare for future growth demands and needs.

David Goldwater, Senior Vice President at Stantec, stated, “We are proud to share DC Water’s commitment to providing essential, high-quality wastewater services while also protecting the environment in our nation’s capital. Our team’s extensive experience with managing large-scale wastewater programs, collaborative delivery, and procurement will support DC Water’s vision for many years to come.”

Stantec will be responsible for various components of the PFP, including managing improvements for wastewater infrastructure and providing planning, design, construction management, and engineering services for wastewater and stormwater pumping and treatment facilities. The firm will also assist DC Water with digital transformation and implementing new technology in major projects to increase cost savings and operational efficiencies.

With its expertise in wastewater treatment facilities and complex, large capital program management, Stantec is well-equipped to deliver successful solutions for DC Water. The firm has recently expanded its presence in the Greater Washington, DC area with projects like the Arlington County biosolids upgrade project and a wastewater treatment facility with AlexRenew.
